Google Business Profile posts are one of the few places you get to speak directly on your listing. They are also moderated, and a rejected post is a wasted effort that leaves your profile looking dormant.
The three post types
- What's New - general updates. Your default.
- Offer - a promotion with a start and end date.
- Event - something happening at a specific time.
What gets posts rejected
- Promoting restricted products: tobacco, vaping, alcohol in many contexts, cannabis and CBD, firearms, gambling, adult content, and certain health products.
- Misleading claims, fake urgency, or offers you cannot honour.
- Low-quality content: keyword stuffing, ALL CAPS, phone numbers crammed into the text.
- Content aimed at minors in regulated categories.
If you sell regulated products
You are still allowed to be on Google Maps and you should still be posting. The trick is to promote the business rather than the regulated products. Write about your store and its atmosphere, your staff, opening hours, service, community involvement, events, and non-regulated accessories.
Many regulated businesses give up on posting after a couple of rejections, which quietly costs them visibility against competitors who stay active. Staying inside the rules is entirely doable once you know where the line sits.
A simple posting rhythm
Weekly is enough. Consistency beats volume. If you manage several locations, write once and publish everywhere rather than logging into each profile.
GBP Manager publishes to every location at once, and for businesses marked as regulated it automatically steers content drafts away from the material that gets rejected.
